What Is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates (also known as rehab Pilates) combines traditional Pilates exercises with physiotherapy expertise. It’s ideal for people who want to build strength, improve movement, and feel more at ease in their body without needing a big gym or fast-paced class.
Sessions are designed to:
Support chronic pain, fatigue, or injury
Improve posture awareness, core strength, and stability
Rebuild trust in your body after time off or a flare-up
Prepare for, or recover from, surgery
Help manage hypermobility, EDS, fibromyalgia
What conditions can clinical Pilates help with?
Chronic pain or fatigue
Posture and balance issues
Recovery from injury or surgery
Hypermobility or joint instability
Pre/postnatal movement
Perimenopause and menopause strength support
What makes our Pilates studio different?
Lots of Pilates studios focus on light loads, aesthetics, or “core burn.” Ours is different.
We support you to build towards functional (sometimes heavier) loads, where appropriate, so you’re not just easing pain you’re rebuilding long-term strength and capacity.
Some perks when you choose our Bibra Lake studio:
Calm, mirror-free, and sensory-friendly
Led by physios and qualifed Pilates teachers who understand pain, fatigue, and hypermobility
Fully equipped with Reformers, Cadillac, Wunda chair, spine corrector, and other props
Additional strength loading options including Cable pull machine, dumbbells and kettlebells
Focused on sustainable strength and movement, not "flatten your abs" rhetoric
Adaptable for all bodies and ability levels
Focused on function, not perfection
Clinical Pilates FAQs
-
Clinical (or rehab) Pilates is led by a physiotherapist and tailored specifically to your medical history, injuries, and movement goals. It’s different from regular group Pilates in a big gym or studio because it’s personalised programming and smaller class sizes ensuring everyone gets the support they need.
-
Absolutely. We regularly work with people who have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), hypermobility, fibromyalgia, pain, and other chronic conditions. Our space is sensory-sensitive and judgement-free, and our physios are experienced in working with complex presentations gently and respectfully.

If you're wondering whether you can claim Pilates with private health insurance the answer is yes, but it depends on who’s running the session. Currently, only Pilates sessions run by a physiotherapist, whether private or group, are eligible for private health insurance rebates in Australia.
However, upcoming changes are expected to allow claims for sessions run by qualified Pilates Teachers ( if they hold a Comprehensive Pilates Certification or Diploma). At our studio, all of our instructors meet this standard, so you’re in safe hands as soon as rebates become available.
-
If you would like to claim your session with private health insurance, at present you need to book an Initial Physiotherapy session with either our Physiotherapist or Senior Physiotherapist.
If you are not needing to claim with private health any of our team can assist you with your Initial Session, including our comprehensively qualified Pilates Teachers.
